IPAM flashlight – Fundamental Philosophy

  • Devices on the network receive static IP addresses. The assignment is documented in a central IP-Tabele.
The central audio VLAN is: 10.16.8.0/22

    • associated devices include among others:
      • All Dante devices
      • Shure RF DeviceControl
      • A&H MixerControl
  • The Dante Primary Network uses Static IP addresses.
  • The Dante Secondary Network runs via Zeroconf / DHCP (VLAN 169.254.x.x/16).

    Special case – PLM Amps
The PLM Amps distinguish between “DHCP” and “Auto (ZeroConf)” -> these must be set to “Auto (ZeroConf)” for DANTE secondary.

  • Consoles each have their own WLAN router. This provides a separate DHCP pool whose address range does not overlap with other routers.
  • The WLAN access is primarily used for service access. Via the addresses provided by the DHCP server, third-party devices (Dante) can be quickly integrated into the system (QuickAdd).
  • For QuickAdd, there is additionally a reserved address list within the IP scheme.

Special case – Yamaha MixerControl
Since Yamaha requires a separate subnet for MixerControl there is a dedicated control subnet for Yamaha consoles: 10.16.12.0/23

Background

Initial Situation

Complex device landscape with many audio devices, mixing consoles, stage boxes, controllers, and mobile WLAN clients.

Variable conditions due to constantly changing setups, locations, and production requirements.

Objective

Efficiency & Security
Networks / setups must be able to be built quickly, combined safely, and operated with absolute reliability, with a clear and binding structure for IP addresses and DHCP servers.
